Easy Grammar Skills (Tense part 1)

Simply there are 3 types of tense:
1. Past Tense
2. Present Tense
3. Future Tense

Other tenses:-
1. Simple Present tense
2. Simple Past Tense

** Simple present tense and simple past tense have no any action or main verb.

Let's study them first,
1. Simple Present Tense:-
Subject + is/am/are + Compliment.
Example:- He is a boy.
                    This is a bat.
2. Simple Past Tense:-
Subject + was/were + Compliment.
Example:- He was a student.
                   We were soldiers.

Past Tense
There are four types of past tense:-
1. Past Indefinite Tense
2. Past Continuous/progressive Tense
3. Past Perfect Tense
4. Past Perfect Continuous Tense

1. Past Indefinite Tense
Subject + V2 + Object ...
Example:-
उसने तुम्हें बुलाया।
He called you.

Did + Subject + V1 + Object.....?
Example:-
क्या तुमने मुझे बुलाया?
Did you call me?

{IW- Interrogative Word}

I.W. + did + subject + V1 + Object......?
Example:-
वह कहां गया?
Where did he go?

Did+ Subject + not + V1 + Object......?
Example:-
क्या उसने मुझे नहीं देखा?
Did he not see me?

I.W. + did + subject + not + V1 + Object.....?
Example:-
तुमने क्या नहीं खरीदा ?
What did you not buy?

2. Past Continuous Tense

Subject+was/were+v-ing+object.....
Example:-
वह क्रिकेट खेल रहा था।
He was playing cricket.
{Was- he, she, it, I, any singular noun
 Were- We, You, They, any plurals}

Subject+was/were+not+v-ing+object.....
Example:-
मैं तुम्हें नहीं बुला रहा था।
I was not calling you.

Was/were+subject+v-ing+object.....?
Example:-
क्या तुम पढ़ रहे थे?
Were you studying?

Was/were+subject+not+v-ing+object...?
Example:-
क्या वह नहीं लिख रहा था?
Was he not writing?

I.W.+was/were+subject+v-ing+object....?
Example:-
तुम क्या कर रहे थे?
What were you doing?

I.W.+was/were+subject+not+v-ing+object...?
Example:-
हमलोग क्रिकेट क्यों नहीं खेल रहे थे?
Why were we not playing?

Past Perfect Tense
Subject+had+v3+object…..
Example:-
He had sold out this umbrella.

Subject+had+not+v3+object……..
Example:-
You had not called me here.

Had+subject+v3+object….?
Example:-
Had I bought a red pen?

Had+subject+not+v3+object…?
Example:-
Had they not played well?

I.W.+had+subject+v3+object…?
Example:-
What had you done here?

I.W.+had+subject+not+v3+object…?
Example:-
Where had you not gone?

Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Subject +had + been + v-ing + object + since/for + duration + others.
Example:-
She had been playing chess since 9o’clock.
{since- 1 o’clock, today, tomorrow, yesterday, mornig, evening, (year) 2014, childhood….(definite time)
For- one day, one hour, minute, second, year, long time……(indefinite time)

Subject+ had+not+been+v-ing+object+since/for+duration+others.
Example:-
You had not been playing cricket for few years.

Had+subject+been+v-ing+object+since/for+duration+others?
Example:-
Had he been writing a letter since 2 o’clock?

Had+subject+not+been+v-ing+object+since/for+duration+others?
Example:-
Had she not been calling you since 4 days?

I.W.+had+subject+been+v-ing+object+since/for+duration+others?
Example:-
Why had you been playing cricket for 8 hours?

I.W.+had+subject+not+been+v-ing+object+since/for+duration+others?
Example:-
Why had she not been singing  a song since May,2010?
